For over thirty years, research on burnout among family service workers has evolved. Child welfare has been notably affected by high burnout rates, a trend identified since a 1979 study. The author described burnout as the depletion or exhaustion due to excessive demands on energy, strength, or resources, which can also include a sense of alienation from the job, often indicated by low job satisfaction and declining performance.

Burnout develops gradually, and an employee may not recognize or accept that there is an issue, according to more recent findings.
Thank you for addressing this issue. You are absolutely correct when you mentioned about shortened responses to clients. Years ago, I experienced this in dealing with customer service. The long hours, coupled with a loss of focus, lead to shortened and very abrupt responses to clients. Again, thank you for addressing the issue.
